In my Season 1, Ranmaru was easily at the top 5 most powerful characters.
How does he square up in my stories? Who can defeat him in the second season?
Can: Anna
Ranmaru is one of the great Masters of Fire, and it took many Stormwolf members to take him down. He is the second best after Anna. Anna, in her one appearance, absolutely trounces the Yokai army and kills the wizard Kashin Koji.
Can't: Jonnie Goodboy Tyler
Jonnie might be one of the most successful villains before Stormwolf came along. Very strong for an ordinary human, he was the most powerful person in his world. He had even blown up planets. However, that was because everyone else was self-destructive and weak. He was no match for Stormwolf because he couldn't stand up to actually competent enemies. Ranmaru, who has killed more powerful foes than Jonnie, trounces him.
Can: The Force Hunter
This creature is a horrifying mix of Yuuzhan Vong and demon, filled with technology. His immunity to the Force, shield generator and powerful arsenal are fearsome threats. While Ranmaru can burn huge beasts to a crisp, his weapons are limited to a beam katana and a tanto, which are of short range. And in short range, the Hunter has a deadly chainsaw and a sled, which means close range is not advised. While Ranmaru's flames do give him a chance to win, the Hunter has the advantage due to his plasma and missiles.
Can't: Tih'mur
This Yuuzhan Vong leader was just lucky when he faced Finn, as he was immune to the Force and his amphistaff is destructive in close range. But Mori has his beam katana, which is just like a lightsaber, for close combat. Also, his foe isn't immune to fire, and Ranmaru can pelt him with fireballs and fiery swords from a long distance.
Can: Shuten Doji
Ranmaru aimed to restore Nobunaga and get rid of the Nine Big Heads of Japan. However, it would be easier said than done. Shuten, while an alcoholic, has also massive brute strength, approximately equal to Al Astor. He has also resistance to fire and can control it very well, so he can fight and beat Ranmaru in his own game.
Can't: Spike
The most recurring henchman of Zant, Spike is a serious threat to Stormwolf, who has caused trouble to Pierre, Virago, even Leah herself. However, Ranmaru hard counters him. Vampires are incredibly vulnerable to fire, so almost any attack from the warlord can damage Spike, and badly. Even if it doesn't end in a single Firestorm, Ranmaru has his beam katana to defend himself from his foe's thorns and stake him, and is durable enough to survive a vampire's punch.
Can: Emperor Palpatine
Palpatine is finally shown fighting in the second arc of Season 2, where he decimates the forces of Hell, and even though he gets destroyed by the Dark One himself, he still manages to hurt him. He also almost stops Finn with 1% of his power. The Force can deflect the flames of Ranmaru, and Palpatine has two lightsabers that can slay Ranmaru in melee combat. Finally, Palpatine can use Force Storm, which is stronger than even the Firestorm and can turn even Ranmaru to ash.
Can't: High Priest Kor
While Kor is a very skilled Force User, and can be creative and reflect flames, Ranmaru is even stronger and smarter than him. While they are similar in many ways, even personality, Ranmaru is far more skilled with his blade, and superior in melee combat. While Kor has a deadly lightning bolt, he needs to hold the Sith Holocron to fire it, while Ranmaru can create walls of fire, spears and even giant dragons by himself. Ranmaru would not win effortlessly, but he would defeat Kor if he got serious.
Can: Ahsoka Tano
Ahsoka was one of the greatest Jedi, and while dead before the story had begun, her skill was shown in battle. She could use the Force to make an air bubble underwater, or gather and reflect all the lava in a floor full of it. She also wields twin white sabers that cut through enemies like butter and is strategic enough to figure out Zant's weaknesses. She nearly beat Zant, which means she can also beat Ranmaru.
Can't: Rhymey Ward
Rhymey was the most powerful beatable foe of the first arc in Season 2. He was a great swordsman and had several special moves with wind and his sword. Even if Ranmaru breaks his sword with his beam katana, Rhymey can just regenerate it. However, he is not very creative, unlike Ranmaru, so he won't use his powers to reflect Ranmaru's flames. He also has a bad habit of announcing his attacks, which means Ranmaru can telegraph all of his spells. Finally, while weak magic can't hurt Rhymey, Ranmaru is a Master of Fire, so he can burn him, and his spells are infinitely more useful than Rhymey's. A feather barrage or a charged sword strike are no match for a fire dragon, a pack of fiery hounds or a spear barrage. And a spin attack or a gust of wind are still no Firestorm.
