Because even if two people have the same type of power, they can have their own fighting style. What does each one have that the other hasn't?

Rey: Mind control

Even in TFA, it took Rey just three tries to Mind Trick a Stormtrooper. Being a Palpatine and a very powerful Jedi, her skills with Mind Tricks are extraordinary. She can even trick Stormtroopers into infighting. Finn isn't as strong as her even in NT, and he also despises mind control, so he never uses or tries to use it.

Finn: Guiding blaster bolts

Finn does not depend on melee combat, because both of the Stormwolf Timeline's female leads outclass him. However, his skills with the blaster are nearly unmatched. After Master Toni's training, he improves even more and can now use the Force to guide his blaster bolts, making sure they don't miss or even strike with many shots at once, useful against vampires and their regeneration. He also does that with his detonators. The result? Homing and hard to fool C4!

Rey: Force Lightning

Sometimes, bloodline can be very helpful. Rey's Lightning could destroy a ship in TROS, and I did make it able to match the Hatemonger's, who wasn't as strong as Rey, but was much more evil. While Finn has to rely on weapons, Rey has a very powerful and focused ranged attack unarmed, which helped her lots of times.

Finn: Imprint immunity

Rey's mental shield is powerful, able to resist Kylo's invasion of her mind, and she also can resist most mind control or mind reading attempts. Her resistances are high, but... she is still vulnerable to soulbonds, which affect souls obviously. Finn also almost imprints once, on Armilla, but he manages to resist it. Close to that, the only thing Finn and Rey share and the former has stronger is the resistance to mind control. At everything else, like mind reading, Force Push or sensing things, Rey is still ahead even in the end of the story.

Rey: Force Heal

There are some more powers exclusive to Rey, like lifting rocks with her foot or throwing her saber like a boomerang, but this takes the cake. Because if not for the way she used it in TROS, Finn would know it too. His pride backfired, since it robbed him of a skill that is useful and suits him. Rey can use it very well, and it is the reason Virago managed to join Stormwolf, defend Poe and save the Galaxy.

Finn: Whirlwind of Destiny

Rey's saber, a double yellow, far outclasses Finn's common single blue, making a better projectile, blocking and striking faster and easier. But Finn is more used to a single blade and can basically spin like a tornado, striking so fast he can melt an armor of thick ice before it regenerates, and it did so in a second.
While I have portrayed Rey as darker than canon, I also wanted to give her some good moments. Below are her 5 best ones (In my opinion)

5. Defeating Von

Von was a Knight or Ren, sent to Earth by Kylo. He was secretly DJ. Rey fought and bested him in a saber duel, and then allowed Rose to finish him off.

4. Defeating the Dread Knight

The Dread Knight was one of the first high-level demons, who had a red blade in each arm and was nearly unstoppable. Able to smash crystals and people with ease, the knight had also a mind sharp as his laser blades. Rey used the Dark Side, however, and managed to kill the armored menace fairly.

3. Curing Virago

Rey might be cruel to those opposing her, even murdering abusers en masse, but she also manages to make friends with her humanity. An example is when she meets a fan of hers, Virago, who was diagnosed of PCOS and struggled to even move. Virago understood what Rey was going through and Rey also believed in her. In the end, Rey Force Healed Virago, allowing her to become her own hero.

2. Defeating the Hatemonger

Rey confronted an undead Adolf Hitler, who was also physically powerful, as he could use the Dark Side, including a red saber and Force Lightning, and even toxic gas from his mouth. He managed to injure her and spewed a lot of sexist comments, but Rey managed to brutally finish him off in the end, even saving her troops by outsmarting him.

1. Washing her mouth with mud

Rey had been a victim of an imprint, also known as Dyad. Through it the Darkness was slowly taking her over, but she was barely fighting it off. In the end, she showed signs of submission when she kissed the man connected through the imprint, in spite of the way he abused, degraded, manipulated and gaslit her, and isolated herself from her friends.

However, with Ben's sacrifice and Finn leaving her in anger, the imprint started losing its power and she became more and more aware of her actions. She washed her mouth with mud, regretting ever kissing the man who hurt her the most, rejected her Palpatine lineage and went after her friends, but also revenge against those behind the imprint.
This isn't very much a spoiler, tbh.

Originally, in "We have each other", I had different plans. The demons would be side villains, mostly background, and Rey, after pushing her friends away for her abuser, would sink lower and lower to the influence of the Dark Side. In the end she would call herself the Empress Palpatine, and would blame Finn for leaving her, and the final battle would be against a giant Rey.

But I realized that it would not be so good, since I would have to bash Rey more than she deserves, while she was heroic if we ignore the way she chased the second vilest man of the Galaxy while being away from her friends.

Instead I decided to make the force behind the Dyad an evil that was trying to corrupt her and her true self be the TFA one. Now, she is more of a third party with an arc for herself.

Do you prefer the current Rey or my old idea?
