pan2000In canon, this happened because... no reason. The thing is, Matt is not the guy who would do things just to be very evil. He will just do anything, even the most horrid crimes, for his image and safety. So, why would he dump Celeste who did nothing wrong as a woman or a manager?
She was one of the first to discover Matt's sociopathic nature somewhere in her relationship. She absolutely adored his naive and good side, which she faced most of the time, so she thought she could fix her boyfriend and save him from his evil side. She suggested therapy to him several times.
But Engarde was shallow and proud of himself. He didn't want therapy, he saw nothing wrong with seeing people as things to be used, and he definitely was worried that therapy would ruin his acting career and his image, as people who get therapy are stigmatized. And Matt wanted to merely act as a model citizen and win Oscars, so he was strictly against getting therapy.
As days passed, he became worse. But she wanted to save him, to appeal to the good she saw in him. And didn't give up on therapy, in spite of him telling her it would ruin him. Having enough of her trying to fix him, he dumped her to protect his image, and told her he would get her killed if she told anyone about him needing therapy or anything similar. Since he was serious, Celeste was heartbroken, and left in tears.
