In one week, I am going to update my series. Lightning Dawn, Admiral of the militaristic Starfleet, wants to prove the Empire he serves is superior to the Resistance due to facts, and even Rancors are no match for him. Can Finn, who has now become a true Jedi, stand up to him?
It's actually a tough fight.
Who has this?
Lightning: Strength.
Both of these heroes have come a long way. Finn was struggling to fight an elite Trooper with a baton, while Lightning was struggling to carry a crate. The two have vastly improved since then. Finn managed to defeat powerful foes like Benjamin and Alastor, though he had help in the last one. However, he always had to use his head in such fights. His offence at best consists of bombs. But Lightning's Uniforce is enough to blow up Rancors and even mountains in one hit. Lightning could kill Finn in one hit if one of his strongest spells connects.
Finn: Intelligence
Finn's most obvious advantage. On the one hand, we have him, who has used the Force to sense weak points, set up creative traps, reflect projectiles and maximized the effectiveness of his weapons by combining them with the Force. On the other hand, we have Lightning, who charges head first, gets a beating, then someone else reveals the weak point, then Lightning uses the Uniforce. Plus, Lightning has the absolutely helpful (to Finn) habit of announcing his attacks.
Lightning: Speed
True to his name, Lightning is extremely fast. He comes from an alleged "master race", basically is for equines, magical or not, what vampires are for humans. Smug evolutions who can partially back it up. Finn is faster than a normal human, but Lightning has trained himself to have superhuman speed and claims he can run around a country with ease.
Finn: Arsenal
Lightning loves flexing about Starfleet's technology. His visor is not just for decoration, as it can see through disguises and analyze some monsters, and he also has the Rainbow Rod, which is a very powerful weapon which has to be activated by voice. However, Finn has more. His blaster basically destroys fodder before they can reach him, the lightsaber is effective in melee combat, the detonators are powerful explosives Finn can use the Force to make them home on targets, and the Microwave Beam is about as powerful as the Rod, only it works by pulling the trigger and not voice.
Lightning: Durability
This one is a bit close. Both fighters can tank a lot of stuff, with Finn surviving a saber in the back, vampires, Ranmaru's flames and a beatdown from Alastor. However, Lightning has partial resistance to spells, something Finn does not have if we exclude mind control. The winged unicorn can shrug off moderate fireballs and magic beams. Finn will live through, but take damage.
Finn: More practical abilities
While Lightning's Uniforce is much stronger than Finn's best attack, Finn's abilities are more versatile. Finn can read minds, has strong telekinesis and can sense things he can't see, like being invisible, behind him or too fast, like the vampires. He has a destructive spin that will demolish anyone who charges head first and can make his bombs home on targets. Without seeking (and being tricked by) heat. Overall, Finn can do more than infuse his punches to hit harder and beams, unlike his adversary.
Lightning: Can block mental tricks
Both have strong mental resistance, but only Finn can read minds, so only his effectiveness can be affected. He basically cannot mind read Lightning and has to outsmart him the traditional way, because brute force will not work. This makes the battle harder for the human.
Finn: Friendship
Yes. Friendship. The two have comparable determination, and believe in themselves, Lightning moreso. So what has Finn more? Friends he cares about. He will go all-out, because he worries about the safety of those he loves, even the more powerful ones than himself. This helps him overcome his own fears and fight better.
Lightning: Flight
Finn's Force abilities are great, but not like Rey's, who can float. He is stuck on the ground, unlike Poe and Rey. Lightning doesn't need to do so, because he has his wings. With these, he can bombard Finn using his Rainbow Rod, or track him down with ease.
Finn: More open-minded
Lightning's mindset: Grand Ruler is always right and I must do what he says. If I can't overpower an enemy, I must power-up. Finn can adapt to his enemy, change his strategies, and question whatever bullshit others try to feed him. He can counter his inability to read Lightning's mind by studying his announced special attacks mid-fight, change strategies, even do psychological warfare.
Bonus: Tie: Determination
Both have a trait that makes them formidable. They do not give up. They can be knocked down, but will easily get back up more than once. They also have values they fight for. Lightning has belief in himself, Finn has friendship and freedom.
