Twilight: Good and Bad hating on it.
May. 25th, 2020 03:04 pmBecause Midnight Sun is going to be finally released and I received negative criticism for adding Leah in a story bc she is a Twilight character (which is laughable in context), I have to say this.
Twilight is not good. Could be, but is not. However, I see people hating on it without having read it once. Just jumping on a bandwagon, listening to the masses. That's actually pretty damn stupid.
If you want to know why these series are bad, read them. Don't just hate without knowing why they are bad.
I hate Twilight primarily for the same reason I don't like Reylo fics. All this worldbuilding... to glorify and whitewash abuse and murder, among other things! These series might teach you things like:
Stalking is love!
Suicide is a good response to your abuser leaving you!
Falling for a child is totally ok if you can't control it!
Only you and your mate matter, everyone else can go fuck themselves!
If you break the law, you can call everyone in the world and they will defend you because you are the protagonist!
If you are not the protagonist, you can't think for yourself!
Below are our three protagonists!
Bella Swan, the extremely passive, whiny, misanthropic human, later vampire. Her reaction to her transformation? She became a glorious immortal! SHE REJECTS HER HUMANITY, JOJO! She believes she is pathetic because of her humanity, but snubs her fellow humans, even her father, and sees them as inferior. This is supposed to be a good role model. Oh yeah, and she considers the actions of Edward and Jacob love, wanting to die when the former left.
Edward Cullen. One of the most DISGUSTING male leads I have seen in my life. He watches Bella while she is sleeping. He had eaten people, showed little remorse. He has no problem with others eating people. He feels nothing for people not named Bella. He abuses her, forbids her to leave and even wrecks her car. We are supposed to root for this guy. Also, he has little problem with Jacob harassing Bella.
Jacob Black. How I LOATHE this werewolf. He supposedly is part of a pack that protects humans from vampires. When he becomes Alpha, he has no problem having vampires eat humans. He sexually assaults Bella, and nobody deserves to be raped. Not even rapists. But sexual harassment and treason is not the worst part. It's that he wanted to murder the baby of Bella and Edward... only to fall in love with the creep. No, I am serious. He is in love with a baby! This is supposed to be good. In fact, he loves the baby so much that he would leave his own pack to die to save her skin. He is a selfish coward.
Twilight could be a modern Beauty and the Beast. Alas, it is not. It's a fest of abuse apologism. And that's its real problem. Romanticised abuse, not the sparkly vampires.
