Finn's arc in the Stormwolf Timeline
Jun. 11th, 2020 11:06 pmYes, I admit it. I am a really strong proponent of the belief that Finn is criminally underrated. If the fact that in every fanfic of mine he is in (except in Path of a Rebel, where Kitty, Nicky, Leah and Dex were the leads, and Kassandra's story where Kassandra and Rey were) he is a main character doesn't show it.
Here is a summary of his arc in the Stormwolf Timeline halfway through. After Poe promoted him to General, Finn became the MVP on Exegol in the fleet battle. Since then, his confidence has been boosted.
After learning what Rey did on Exegol, he got pissed. He loved her beforehand, but, feeling betrayed, wanted nothing to do with her. Additionally, he felt bad about leaving Leah, who was strict to him, but still never pushed him away or defended a serial killer.
He left Rey and the Galaxy, trusting Jannah with the Stormtrooper program and telling her not to stop. He proceeded to track Leah's cell, destroy the demons and save her. The two started to be good friends again, getting hunted by the Agents. After meeting Q, the three start looking for Toni, a guy who was in ads with a lightsaber, and undermining the forces of evil. Finn starts by wanting to train in the Force to protect others and feel better about himself.
However, he has some pride, which leads to him refusing to learn Force Healing. This backfires several times. Another part is him having a family. He ends the Greece arc surrounded by people who truly love him. He doesn't get blind worship (and never will or wants to), but he is still really valued and respected.
In Egypt, though he has only one really big duel (excluding his loss to Armilla and him beating some tough mooks), his story still advances. He starts off by learning that people still hate him due to the villainous propaganda and racism, and an attractive evil woman tries to manipulate him. Finn also learns that despite being stronger, he still has limits as the enemy gets serious. He also fears not being as strong as Kylo. Since, despite his kindness and Kylo's cruelty, and Finn getting scarred for life defending Rey from Kylo, Rey still kissed Kylo, Finn wants to surpass Kylo in some way, to beat him.
He sees some negative consequences as his pride almost kills an allied soldier indirectly, and is helpless at some point due to the villains holding cities hostage.
However, when Cairo is attacked due to his rescue, he shows with his actions that he is not guilty and defends the citizens with his life, which leads to Egypt respecting him and seeing him as a hero.
Finally, when he loses his mentor, he fights an enemy like Kylo but far stronger. Even though he could run away, since his more powerful allies were all defeated by that creature, he still fought and struggled a lot. But he outsmarted and killed the monster. He realized that he had actually surpassed Kylo and now plans to find his actual family.
About Rey, he starts hurt by her actions, but as time passes, he feels better and better. Initially, he sees her as an abuse apologist, but he becomes torn between seeing her as this or a victim of manipulation and evil. He increasingly leans towards the latter.
Armilla does try to manipulate him, and she does have some results, but ultimately fails.
Do you like his arc so far? Yeah, by telling it, I had to summarize the plot...
