Five hints that Talon Ted is Matt Engarde
Jul. 4th, 2021 09:47 amFor those who read my new update, I spoil nothing. I all but spelled it out. So yeah, I made a composite character of two sociopaths, the self-destructive and overly egoistical Talon Ted and the paranoid, murderous, two-faced Matt Engarde. Or basically the latter posing as the former.
Just like in his canon, Matt is a competent schemer, but has made some minor mistakes that could and did give him away. (Note: the fact that he hates Adrian isn't here, which was what gave him away)
1. He can make and serve drinks out of nowhere.
His primary magic spell is a mundane utility, showing he isn't mostly a combatant. He can make these drinks as a token of kindness to his guests... Or he can swing them evilly, as he somehow had done in a detention center.
2. He keeps losing in Justice for All and only at the very last point of the game
Even if his pride was an issue, Ted would know he could win by trial and error. Nobody is that stupid to make the same mistake over and over and over. Turns out, he was losing on purpose because losing means Matt was acquitted in the game... so he essentially was winning.
3. This joke works only the second time
Manny Collars tells Pierre "Engarde, you slimeball". Then there is a cut to Talon Ted being offended someone called him a slimeball, as if his name is Engarde. Later, Rhymey tries to rhyme his name with Ted's, but the rhyme is cut. Talon doesn't rhyme with Ward. His true name does.
4. His tragic backstory
It's actually true. Matt just cut the parts where he was a total piece of filth and presented himself as a victim and even a hero. Kylo Ren would be proud. And yeah, he didn't murder his rival, he merely paid someone else to do it. And while he isn't blameless on the evil his rival did, he would achieve nothing if said rival wasn't a dick himself.
5. His appearance
I describe this humanoid stallion as wearing a red and white costume, with a brown mane that covers the right side of his face. Like, that isn't like Matt's fake self at all in canon, dude! (Also, to go with his two faces, I am sure he is thinking "dud" when he says "dude".) Oh, and when he plays nice, he also uses that verbal tic in the fic.
Bonus for those who read the spiteforright spin-off: He says spring breezes might look refreshing, but they might hide the most destructive hurricanes. He talks about himself.
I think now we can safely say if he is innocent or guilty.
