Spitefic: A pyrrhic conviction
May. 3rd, 2021 02:47 pm A certain scene at Beaker's trial pissed me off. And not just that it turned Swift Star from a good person into a blind loyalist.
The judge banged his gavel, “Cadet Swift Star, please refrain from--” was all he said before Lightning interrupted him.
“No… let him continue. It needs to be said. Even you’re thinking the same way.”
The judge tried to make an excuse, but he looked up at the majesties, sitting in their balcony box behind the court.
They nodded at him to allow Swift to proceed.
But the judge refused.
"Order in the court! The judges are independent of the government, and nobody will force me to not make order!
Lightning Dawn, I don't really feel the same way. Your excuse for genocides was that "they were evil and forced their beliefs on us". So is Beaker's.
While what he did was low and cruel, his complaints are all valid. I am a servant of justice, and just because you are the government and Beaker is not, doesn't mean I will fear you more!
I know what Swift will call out Beaker for. For hating Starfleet. I feel Beaker did something truly evil, but it was his means, not his cause.
So, I will sentence him to a life sentence, but not for the reasons you would like. He is going to think about his attempted genocide, and so will his accomplishes.
Dismissed, all of you!"
As Beaker leaves, he does so with a smile in his face. "To be honest... I wanted to get to the court. Thank you, Lightning Dawn. Your attempt to gaslight the judge into allowing the once great person you corrupted to speak what you made him think showed everyone what you are. I am going to prison and deserve to. I went too far. But I do so without regrets."
Just like with Human Celestia, Lightning acted on impulse against authorities he didn't like. One minute later, everyone was stunned as Lightning had collapsed and the judge dropped dead, struck with Uniforce through the chest.
And, in Beaker's name, a massive revolution was starting to ignite.
Notes: Seriously, the high general and the royals gaslighting the judge into letting Swift Star speak the opinions of the government was a Moral Event Horizon for me. In another series, it would be the moment Beaker won.
