Ah, Fall of Starfleet. A spitefic that puts my own to shame, except if grammar matters that much. I love this fucking fic, because it's a deconstruction fic written with love for the potential and exploits it instead of merely bashing. It also has many villains, some competent, some... not so much.
Al Astor is the Big Bad of "We Have Each Other", one of my fics. He is an announcer of the news who is also a fearsome Archdemon and the toughest enemy of Stormwolf, my team of Sue hunters, some of which wasted characters from other canons.
He has enormous brute strength, control over neon and Hellfire, and reality warping to an extent as main abilities. And also a lot of influence. He could beat up a lot of Starfleet villains... but in this spitefic, the baddies do not fuck around either.
Who can beat Al Astor?
Can: Dark Conquest
The Big Bad of Fall of Starfleet. A charismatic, very very evil deity, the character whom you would love to hate... to his pleasure, as he gets stronger by it. He can tank extremely powerful spells and dish out destructive ones, and can also be very sadistic. Al Astor... serves an evil deity who gets power by hate and malice, and also fears said deity. Plus, he uses a lot of hate and anger when he fights. Conquest stomps.
Can't: Rhymey Ward
On the flipside of competence, we have this guy. He is skilled with mind control, but Al has a strong mind, as he has blocked mind reading and gave the same mind reader trouble later, even though he wasn't focused the second time. In terms of fighting skills, Al is much, much stronger. While Rhymey has his Ward Sword, Alastor can take hits and use his neon shields to block. Also, both have faced the speedsters of the good guys, and their enemies also had extreme strength. Alastor beat Leah the first time and barely lost the second, when she got far more skills and Finn's help, while Rhymey never beat Dash with all of his powerups in 1-on-1, she even saved his ass once.
Can: Celesto Grandruler
There are ways Al can defeat Celesto. Celesto without the Tri-Horn Crown and the Orb of Reality would lose in as much time as Alastor wanted. Plus, Al is the better propagandist, even knowing when to say half-truths without brainwashing, and is much, much smarter. However, Celesto does stand a chance with the two artifacts he stole, as the Orb has far superior reality warping to the Archdemon's and Celesto had enough raw strength to outmatch powerful enemies, more than Alastor's. And Alastor usually relies in brawn. Celesto wins in a straight fight with his stolen artifacts, loses in everything else.
Can't: Emil Kudos
The doctor is not much different from Chioccolatta, except he is also a complete fascist. He is also taken out by a Jojo move, which happens to be my favorite. He is smart, but wastes his mind in sadistic experiments, planning to make a name in history. From brawn, he is not so great; except when he makes himself very tough and muscular. Alastor's true form is also super tough and muscular, but he also has his Hellfire and Neon powers, outclassing him still in offense and defense. He is also smart enough to keep up with Emil's tricks, and more sane.
Can: Grogar
The Necromancer is Dark Conquest's only friend. In fact, they treat each other as equals. Grogar is his true name, and he is basically Death incarnate in this fic. He can commit genocide on entire species with no effort at all, and resurrect the dead as zombies as powerful as they were alive. While the zombies would probably not bother Alastor much, as he can take and dish out a lot of punishment, Grogar has a death touch that bypasses durability. Alastor can protect himself with a shield, but once it's down? He is toast.
Can't: Fratello
A clever and competent villain, he can take on and defeat soldiers alone easily. He is also a victim of his own suit, having been corrupted by it until defeated by the power of love. While he is no pushover, he can be stopped by someone who has no warrior's edge, since he is not himself when evil, and Hellfire and especially the giant Neon Axe and the reality warping are too tough for the suit. Also, Fratello's flames aren't weak, but still not Hellfire.
Can: Raven
This is actually a pretty even fight. Both have far, far more strength than skill. They are strong enough to demolish heroes and instill fear, and their spells (Chaos Buster/Chaos Hammers for Al, Uniforce for Raven) show a lot of power but not finesse. Also, both are defeated by strategies and are ruthless, though Raven turns out to be a victim. Sounds even? Raven has one advantage: feats. She kills a lot of named adversaries, while Al, in spite of knocking out both protagonists at different points, doesn't actually kill anyone. Then again, only the very heavy hitters dare to face him.
Can't: Dementia
Like Fratello, she is a victim, but starts as a villainess. A villainess with a lot of standards. She has great ice powers and would actually hate Al for condoning rape to his enemies. However, for all her competence, she is unlucky, since she does have skill with her twin daggers, but it takes a lot of blows to bring Al down, and one lucky hit of his can turn the tables on the skilled enemy. Her skills and fighting style also are similar to two of Alastor's minions. If the two fought, though, she would be the good guy and raise good points about his actions.
Can: Titan
This guy is a tough nut to crack. He is probably immortal, has cheated death a lot of times. Al is not so lucky, as he did die, though it took A LOT of punishment to kill him. Also, Titan is very smart and a great Go player, he can outplan Al too. He is powerful enough to revive people and steal their memories, or even give them back to his victims. A deity himself, he is way above the Archdemon's league.
Can't: Neo-Starfleet (all of them)
Celesto recruited these guys to replace the original Starfleet. Since this fic deconstructs such mentalities, they might be strong even individually, but they don't have a lot of experience and are little more than fodder. Alastor, in his final battle, forced two powerful and experienced heroes to complement each other's skills and use various strategies to bring him down by the skin of their teeth. He would destroy a team of rookies, even if they had powers.
