Why my Starfleet arc is relevant
No, I didn't get criticism yet, but am afraid it could be seen as just padding and spite.
While these are two reasons, I have five better ones.
1. Two new characters for the heroes. Ace Ray and Brass Bolt. Stormwolf is composed of wasted characters, after all. (Ron would be there if he wasn't hated by just the fandom) They can provide excellent air support and muscle, Ace is fast and Brass is smart.
2. Allows characters who are not Finn, Rey, Leah and Virago to get the spotlight. It allows Alix, who was recruited and Rey found the recruiting an opportunity to act for herself, to keep being relevant and even have her own duel. It also has Poe Dameron fight in space, where he truly shines. I think this arc had some of the best Poe moments I made.
3. Jannah deserves a separate mention. Because she and Poe are the true protagonists of this arc, the latter leads his squad to victory and the former... First, she shows what she can do while Finn is absent, then she shows her combat skills and finally, she learns she has the Force. She also gets a rival in the form of Shaina.
4. It does allow the heroes to do something, but also does the same for the villains. Since Zant purposely does nothing in the main plot, his raid in the Starfleet prison doesn't just show him being relevant and effective, but contrasts with the heroes.
5. The final showdown is vital to the main plot. Lightning Dawn has some parallels with Rey, and is also extremely strong. He is the perfect final test for Finn, both in abilities and his stance towards Rey, who has gone Dark. The result will affect the Triangle plot's ending.
