Five Hints in New Timeline the Dark One is Ganondorf (and five other possible candidates)

My story is done! It reveals Rey's ultimate choice, puts the Nutty Poet back in action and could be the conclusion unless anyone wants a sequel.

comments

A Link to the Past boss list (including Ganon): Easiest to Hardest

0. Ball and Chain Soldier

The miniboss of the tutorial dungeon, two pots in the face and he is done!

1. Armos Knights

You can have a safespot if you kill one knight, as they have very fixed pattern in their charge. Only the last one is a threat because he becomes faster and can jump high. Don't run out of arrows and you are golden. Also, they are pathetic in the rematch.

2. Agahnim (1st fight)

He is a joke. Just reflect the energy balls to him, avoid the small ball cluster and also avoid the lightning. I prefected this loser in my first try.

3. Arrghus

The Swamp Palace boss, it has two phases. First one, you drag the small creatures surrounding it and slash them. Then it rushes at you. The first phase gave me a bit of trouble, the second did not hit me once.

4. Kholdstare

Another easy boss. It starts in a shell that must be melted with the Fire Rod. Basically you spend all of your magic at that thing and it splits into three strong melee enemies you can slash at.

5. Agahnim (second fight)

The Dark Wizard we chase through the game is still a pushover, even at his best. He has two clones this time, which forces you to mind your surroundings. If you know how to spot the real one (he isn't pale), this mignt even backfire, as the clones send projectiles you can reflect on the real one and damage him. Only got one or two hits.

5. Lanmolas

Their first encounter is actually hard, first time I bit the dust. They are three at once and throw stones in a diagonal pattern. Regular arrows are not advised, but the Ice Rod and spin attacks can fuck them up. Their rematch is easy. Yes, there is a trap that spits fireballs, but the Silver Arrows mean you can kill each one in one hit.

6. Moldorm

The first encounter was so fucking annoying!!! It kept throwing me out of the arena and I had to fight it with full health! The no-good...

Buuut in the rematch I hugged the wall, used my upgraded gear, tanked a little and got my revenge on the little shit.

7. Mothula

This one is frantic and depends on your magic. The Fire Rod can be very effective against the boss, and the sword does some damage, as does the hammer. But there are traps, the boss moves fast, and also throws fireballs. It's all about speed. I struggled, though it was partially the fault of an emulator. I still won.

8. Virteous

The boss of the Misery Mire. Like Kholdstare and Arrghus, it's a big eye. It also has smaller eyes protecting it. Which can jump towards you. Pro-tip: use the bow. It denolishes both the small eyes and the boss. But even WITH the bow, Virteous has a very powerful lightning strike. Like Agahnim's, but perfected. And it kept hitting me. I wasted a fairy, and nearly lost another one, but beat the boss with one effing heart. And it was cathartic.

9. Helmasaur King

And now we go to the hard bosses. Like this asshole. He killed me four times, the record so far... BUT, I went badly prepared, so it was my fault. Plus, a room before him is vicious and I ended up staring the fight with low health. Anyway, this boss has two attacks. Fireballs that split to more and these split to more, and a tail attack faster than the human eye can see. You have to use your hammer to break his mask, and your sword or bow to kill him. What's the best way to fight him? Stand in a straight line with him. You heard that right. This is the only place the tail won't hit you ever, and the fireballs split diagonally, so you might even perfect the fight. Also, when the tail moves faster, he is about to attack.

10. Blind the Thief

Every Zelda player knows Ganondorf. (Anyone who has read my Old Timeline also knows him.) He is the most dangerous bandit leader who walked in Hyrule, the King of Thieves. He also isn't a big fan of light. Well, Blind is the runner-up. He hates light even more, his name comes from here. I love him because he has some personality, he isn't a mindless beast. He disguises himself as a maiden and plans to trap you. You have to lead him to a bright spot to expose him. And then prepare for a lot of fireballs. I had the Red Shield and thanked God for it. You have to go to him and strike his head a few times until you chop it off. But... the head will live, become invincible and keep shooting, while Blind will grow a new one to shoot at you too. And in the end, you will have to watch for shots from three angles. It's a frantic fight, and I had no protection spells with me, so I got a beating. I beat him by the skin of my teeth, but I love this boss.

11. Trinexx

Fuck Trinexx. It took me two tries, well prepared in both, to beat him. This... turtle... thingy... has three heads. One fire, one ice, one regular. I had the Golden Sword upgrade, but I still had to hit each of the side heads three times with the magical rods to stun them and then rush to strike with the sword, praying the middle head does not hit me. The problem? No way to recharge magic inside the arena, as apparently Ganon knew his best monster's weakness. And the small heads move fast and can dodge the shots. The flaming one can make lethal trails of flames. The icy one can make the floor slippery. The middle one just bites hard. So, after spending a lot of magic, the side heads are gone.

Which makes the middle one act like a snake, because Ganondorf made an actually competent beast guard Zelda herself. And its weakness is neither the face nor the tail. No, it's worse than Moldorm... it's a section in the MIDDLE, which is not so easy to hit in practice. I tanked and lost a fairy the second time, killing the beast as I got revived. Bye bye Trinexx, I will not miss you. But at least you are proof of Ganon's competence.

12. Ganon

I tried to fight him using a keyboard. Don't do this unless you are a pro. I had heard this Ganon is the strongest of all. Lore wise and gameplay wise. I had a minor handicap. I mentioned his competence before. But I had kicked his sorry ass so many times. How bad could he be?

VERY! He has four phases. First one: he just throws the trident. You can land one free hit before he can talk, and the trident is extremely easy to dodge. So, basically, you just hit the fucker several times.

Second phase is where Ganon shows why he is my favorite villain of all time. He makes a circle of blazing bats, which deal two hearts of damage and are hard to avoid. Did I mention that by this point all damage you get is reduced to a quarter, and that's why he deals only two hearts? This translates to eight hearts per hit!!!

Still manageable. And then comes the third phase, where he spams teleport and has no longer his trident. He creates a circular trail of flames that is very hard to dodge... except if you manage to hit him first, then he will not attack. He will instead stomp the ground and make tiles fall. If you fall in the gaps he creates, and that's possible because if you hit him or he hits you, you get knockback, you have to start over. I fell seven times. Seven attempts. In one boss. No boss humiliated me like this in Zelda ever until now.

But it would be harder to be thrown out if the last phase was a sitting duck. Ganon turns invisible, invincible AND teleports for good measure, firing an unblockable bat straight at you. You have to spend magic to ignite the torches, both of them because one will make him visible but not vulnerable, switch to the Silver Arrows, strike the fucker with the sword, and then fire an arrow quickly, because the torches will be extinquished again.

And don't try tanking, you flinch enough for Ganon to recover and you won't land the fucking hit.

I usually am silent when my parents are in the house, but I did yell "DIE!" when I killed him. There is one reason you died, Ganon. One simple reason. You really pissed me off.

It's almost sad how in Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess and even Hyrule Warriors Ganon isn't half as challenging. Maybe he got old.

comments

Top 5 hardest Zelda bosses and minibosses and 5 easiest

Note: This list is not from games I have watched on Let's Play, but fights I actually played. Hyrule Warriors counts.

Let's start!

5. Easiest: Dark Link (Ocarina of Time)

Most boss fights in Zelda, including minibosses, can't be defeated by mashing the sword button like a scrub. People speak of this fight as if it's epic, but the game was my first one and I perfected this first try by paying attention to my surroundings and either mashing faster than he can swing or with good timing. He gets harder and much better if you use fancy moves, but when bad playstyle can make a battle easier, it deserves this spot.

4. Easiest: Margomill (A Link Between Worlds)

This boss is hard to hit, but honestly not much of a fight. It is also the easiest enemy in Hero Mode, where all the enemy attacks get four times stronger, but not damage from pits. Why? Because it does not directly attack you, instead it tries to shove you down the pits, which deal low damage! I was also better than my first time in OOT, so this boss went down like a bitch.

3. Easiest: Ball and Chain Soldier (A Link to the Past)

He is the chief of the tutorial dungeon to save Zelda. His mace makes a fair fight with the sword challenging, and there are three pots with hearts you might need... and I mean the pots. Throw two to his face and he is history.

2. Easiest: Armogohma (Twilight Princess)

While the Gohma in Ocarina of Time was pathetic, and far easier than Dark Link if you mash in neither fight, it's this one that bugs me more. The pun is unitnentional. Because this is not the first boss, it's the SIXTH one. The first phase is imposing on paper, with a giant laser beam and giant statues you have to bring down on her belly. Easier done than said. So, we have a second phase after three hits, where the bug's eye survives and uses the Joestar Secret Tecnique. No, O am not kidding.

Dishonorable Mentions: Gohma (Ocarina of Time, pathetic if you know what to do), Volga first fight in Hyrule Warriors (he is a pussy the first time, but gets much much better later), Morpheel (easy and boring), Blizzetta (I beat the first phase without damage or MOVING AT ALL, but the second one put up a decent fight).

1. Easiest: King Bulblin, on foot, both times.

King Bulblin basically shows up four times with some improvements to show how far you have grown. The horseback fights were easy, though when I faced him first time in the bridge I fell twice. Then they became easier... and easier...

In Gerudo Desert, after the easiest stealth segment in the world because you can just kill the guards with two arrows before they spot you, and even right after, you face the King in his tent. And I saw on YouTube that his massive axe deals notable damage. Shame that in my first attempt I didn't just perfect him, but also didn't even see the attack animation at all. And I also did that fairly with sword, unlike that tutorial miniboss in A Link to the Past.

5. Hardest: Phantom Ganon (Ocarina of Time)

The first boss you face as Adult Link, this guy is creative and also an asshole. First phase, he emerges from paintings with his horse to zap you. Some arrows can easily take him if you are careful. The second phase is a Dead Man's Volley. You have to reflect his energy balls, but he can send them back fast. The easy way out of this is to reflect from an angle that isn't right in front of him. Also, his spear hurts.

4. Hardest: Darkhammer (Twilight Princess)

Fuck this guy. Apart from Ganondorf, who is justified because he is a four-phase final boss, this is the guy who gave me the hardest beating in Twilight Princess. I used a potion and a soup after this. Yes, he can be oneshotted, but I couldn't cheese him and tried to fight him and the narrow corridor fairly. It's one of the few fights where the terrain favors the villain more than you, and he can counter the one thing that can assist you if your timing is not good. He is the reason I included minibosses on this list.

3. Hardest: Gemasaur King (A Link Between Worlds)

This boss is notable because he was challenging on Normal Mode and I beat him barely. However, in HERO MODE... I got stuck for a while. He killed me over three times. His patters are hard. When he does wear the mask, he is not hard, but when it is broken, the lights are out and he moves faster than the human eye can see. You have to turn on the lights to make him vulnerable, and he is so damn fast. Oh, and no tanking in Hero Mode. I warn you.

2. Hardest: Phantom Ganon (Hyrule Warriors)

Hyrule Warriors has its fair share of bosses. This one comes after the real Ganon's defeat, is a DLC boss and he does not fight as a mere shadow. He fights like it's the soul of Ganondorf himself, and story-wise he even has his own agenda. In Hyrule Warriors, it's all about combos and different characters have different weapons. The Dead Man's Volley is harder than it should be as a result. He also changes his tactics like the real Ganon and unlike everyone else as the fight goes on, and draws two giant swords. He fires a volley of powerful projectiles, or makes an electrical spin that is very hard to dodge and, finally, he has a very subtle weak point. I will spoil you and save you frustration, it's his back while he is laughing.

I swear, this version is Ganondorf's spirit.

Honorable Mentions: Ganondorf (final boss in Hyrule Warriors, he is harder than the entire list if you fight him before taking his castle and his second phase is my favorite boss ever, but you can weaken the first phase by taking the castle by a lot), Bongo Bongo (I went back and forth between him and Gemasaur King, he just has so many attacks and a lot are very damaging, plus you fight on a drum), Grinexx (A Link Between Worlds, he did a ton of damage and was hard to hit)

1. Hardest: Yuga Ganon (A Link Between Worlds)

This guy is my second favorite Ganon fight after Hyrule Warriors, and also a big bastard to fight. Because Yuga has a lot of dirty tricks and Ganon is a killing machine, their combination is a nightmare. For the first part, you face only Ganon's power and skill with his iconic trident. He can use a wide variety of moves, including an unblockable magic stab and a boomerang move, and of course teleport spam because it's Ganon and we are not in Ocarina of Time.

Second stage and Yuga's powers are used too. First, we have the classic Dead Man's Volley, hard because 1. Grazing the shot will not reflect it properly and 2. In the end, he fires TWO balls at once, and 3. It takes many hits for you to win. Then wall merge, with Light Arrows. You fight Yuga inside the painting, and in each part the way to harm him changes. In the second one, he can even kill you if you are careless.

Finally there is a part with hard to avoid attacks in theory, with Ganon's Blazing Bats and Yuga's painting flames at once, but there are safespots if you upgraded your Magic Gauge.

Opinions about my list?

Update: Two new challengers come to the list as of recently. Agahnim Fight 1 to the easiest as I perfected the wizard first try, and Helmasaur King as hardest because he is extremely hard unless you know how to avoid his fucking tail (it's right in front of his face, where you can hit him. Immediately stand there if you see the tail moving faster and you will defeat the boss sooner or later.)

comments

I can't believe it! At all!

Today, I beat Twilight Princess (and Ganondorf is kinda easy except the third phase, but epic). I also finished my biggest spitefic chapter EVER (in PKH, the final battle with the Fairy Queen, who is actually a far greater threat than the final boss), and finally WHEA is also before the final showdown.

What can I say except I did not expect this actually happening?

It was far easier said than done, to be honest.

comments

My version of Ganondorf vs Harrymort

Who is the bigger evil? The Black Legion mastermind or the primary Fairy Champion?

Let's see:

Lust for power. Ganondorf has a massive god complex and wants to be the only god. Though his agenda is not limited there, his lust for power is extreme. Harrymort wants power-up after power-up and asks for plenty of transformations to promote his own agenda too. I say they have a tie here.

Transformations and power-ups for servitude. Ganondorf has definetely done this with his deals, asking for people to serve him in exchange for becoming extremely powerful warriors, sometimes immortal. These people volunteer usually, but Ganondorf uses a lot of temptation to persuade them to do so and might twist the words to gain something. He has also done mind control and even created abusive soulbonds. However, Harrymort kidnaps women, he makes them his immortal soldiers, he points out how much he offered and he has a lot in common with the Dark One here... but two things. Harrymort's slaves have no free will and become breeder machines. Ganon wants warriors, Harrymort sex slaves. I say Harrymort gains the more evil point here.

Combat: Harrymort is no slouch. Even though he avoids fighting openly, he has Voldemort's memories, is immune to fire and bullets, can cast curses with his wand, knows archery, can burn a forest, has two powerful transformations and uses bad luck potions to cripple his enemies. However, the Prince is immune to anything not holy or light-based, is a great swordsman, punches like a train, can survive a Hyperspace Ramming, can control the hate and malice of others and has four extremely devastating transformations. I believe Harrymort gets stomped badly here.

Armies: This one is no contest. Wooden Soldiers, tree spirits and fairies against every kind of monster you can imagine, from skeletons and vampires to Hell's best troops. Not sorry, Harrymort!

Dirty tricks: On the one side we have: Moles on the enemy side, sometimes the Dark One masquerades as a friendly prince or a nice shopkeeper. He also has used a fake of himself to trick enemies. Can easily make others work for him with just promises of power and his minions slander the enemy often. And more. On the other side we have scrapegoat, fake intendities for the enemy to be fooled, fake of an enemy's body to trick an assassin, loyalty imprints to force people to obey him and, as mentioned above, poison to leave the enemy helpless. I believe Harrymort would think he outsmarted Dumbledore, who would actually be a replica made by Ganon, who would be laughing at the Dark Colonel plot.

Goals: Ganondorf wants power. He wants complete authority. But not just that. Since he believes humanity is corrupt, he wants it to be exterminated to the last man. He believes humanity is oppressing every realm it rules and is a destructive parasite. He only kept himself from killing them all because he wanted to make them a factory farm species for him and his minions. Harrymort's goals are similar, however he goes for the destruction option with nukes, tries to make everyone Aryan, wants to be rich and have a harem. Looks like the Prince is wanting in this department.

Overall, I believe Harrymort is more evil than the Dark One, however he doesn't have half his effectiveness. Please share your thoughts!

comments

Defenders of the Dimensions

https://archiveofourown.org/works/16714855

This is part of my crossover saga. Basically a character list of the good guys and in the end, they confront a Mary Sue... who falls for the classic Sue weakness.

comments

Finn's Inferno Sue Bodycount

A fic I wrote a year ago was Finn's Inferno, where I admit I went too far with the crack. It involves the Resistance from the Sequel Trilogy leading an assault against Hell itself, with the aid of OCs and characters from other franchises.

As they get through the dark kingdom, they are forced to watch over-the-top horrors! Among the victims are some Sues, so tell me whose punishment would you like to see!

Also has MST, where the Resistance is forced to watch the most horrible, horrible comic that turned into a movie. So bad, it's somehow worse than Vegan Artbook, which at least is good for a fireplace.

WARNING: In this AU Kylo is the villain's very powerful second-in-command, bc it was written pre-TROS. The post-TROS stories have him do redemption tasks, where he kills living Sues and Stus instead. In case anyone wonders why he has minions or tortures a sinner.

Ebony Way (yes) is forbidden to touch men and forced to wear prep clothes forever.

Jenna Silverblade is one of Ganondorf's (oh yeah, he is the enemy leader) minions, tries and fails to seduce and then beat Link and gets executed for it.

Ian Brandon Anderson is first blasted by Finn, then bested by Rey when he tries to assault her and then strangled by an unredeemed Kylo Ren, who calls him out for his victim complex and pettiness.

Sonichu is cut in half by Pan (OC), who tells him he is not even his strongest foe.

For Vegan Artbook Sues I have nothing, but I do have for militant vegans. Not much, but those who were both greedy and gluttons were turned into pigs and then they were fed to the militant vegans.

Julia Nakahamou is a minion of Kylo Ren. She is slain by Rey effortlessly.

Bella and Edward have a throwaway mention in the Circle of Lust. They are among the toxic couples who can't touch each other ever.

Do you want to see one of the punishments?

comments
