Five characters from my fics Spandam can beat (and five he can't)
Spandam, also known as the Ivory Leader, is not primarily a fighter. His skills lie in manipulation, torture and combining both of them. Nevertheless, he can be a threat to some people because he has an elephant sword, a Seastone Chain, a complete lack of honor and, in Stormwolf, a Seastone Pistol. Whom can he somehow beat?
Can: Emily Young
Emily, Leah's cousin, is no fighter, but she is an excellent cook. She can put up a fight, since she has her Fire Eggs, her magical frying pan and has killed a mighty beast using only her brains and sulfur. But she is still behind in terms of gear and her opponent is a far bigger cheater than her, which can give him the edge.
Can't: Gray
Gray is a former Stormwolf member, who has retired. She has a Gunblade, meaning she can fight equally well in close range and afar, but she is also one of the people who can beat Spandam in mind games. Even if she doesn't use her power to control his weak mind, she will break his focus because she knows insult sword fighting, aka the bane of everyone with thin skin.
Can: Tongr
Tongr is one of the weakest antagonists in Stormwolf. He is a weak coward with a knife, who kneels before anyone that has a strong weapon, including Shepherd. Shepherd, who was hired so the Ivory Leader could look more competent. Anyways, a coward with a knife is no match for a coward with really strong weapons to rely on and good durability.
Can't: Poe Dameron
Poe is the leader Spandam wishes he was. Both of them lead organizations who claim to want peace and justice, and both of them, despite their lack of powers, have some really strong weapons. Apart from Poe's gas bombs that bypass durability, Poe is also far more skilled at using his arsenal, which is what ensures his victory.
Can: Stone Heart
Stone Heart seems to be far stronger than the Ivory Leader, and he is also a petty sadist who will use his magic if insulted. However, while both of them are bad at taking criticism, Stone Heart's ego is more fragile, and Spandam will easily get under his skin. Once Stone loses his cool, his gut will get gored by Funkfreed.
Can't: Tower of Chaos
The very first unique villain in Stormwolf, the Tower is strong for when he appears. He has twin crossbows, a mighty tower shield that shoots beams and enough physical strength to stomp the ground and cause a quake. While the Seastone Chain can trip him and Funkfreed can deal damage, the barrage of rapid arrows will still destroy the corrupt Cipher Pol agent, and a shield beam will finish the job if the target is still too durable.
Can: Manofly
Rose's first opponent in the Grand Line against her most important opponent in this arc. Even with the subversion of Spandam not being too strong, it's still very much in his favor. Manofly may be more creative, as he is a Fishman who uses crabs, half-eaten food and bee carcasses to fight, but all of his weapons are very weak and will take multiple hits to give him the edge. On the other hand, either Funkfreed or the Seastone gun can end the fight instantly.
Can't: Smoker
Sometimes, having a hard counter means nothing if the opponent is far more skilled. This is one of these cases. While Spandam can fire his Seastone Pistol and do severe damage to Smoker, Smoker is faster, stronger and smarter, and he is also very creative with his smoke. If he uses his Observation Haki, he can also just dodge the bullets and still win.
Can: Elmjra
Elmjra is one of the Ivory Corps, and she has powerful abilities at her disposal. She knows the Rokushiki and has the venomous Widow Swords, which she can use very well. The Soldier Hound Serum increases her abilities tenfold, making her able to beat most fighters... and completely unable to beat her boss, because it makes her sense him and stops her from attacking, even by accident. Overall, none who has the serum can touch the Ivory Leader, even though they outclass him otherwise.
Can't: Din Djarin
Din is a foil to the Ivory Leader, because one of them is a hero forced to be an enemy due to being manipulated, and the other a villain who posed as an ally for his own goals. Also, both of them have good arsenal, including a special sword and the most famously tough material of their worlds. So, why does Din have a guaranteed victory? Simple, he is a warrior, who will fight against more powerful opponents and use his head to win, against a bully who mostly goes after those who can't fight back.
