Five One Piece characters who can beat my OC Spike (and five who can't)
Spike is a Zant loyalist of my fics. He is a vampire whose gift is thorns.
Who can take him on in the Grand Line if he tries to take it for his master?
Can: Monkey D.Luffy
Before the timeskip, a fight between the two would be VERY one-sided. Spike hard counters Luffy's fruit and his vampiric speed allows him to be one step ahead. Conqueror's Haki wouldn't affect him, as he has strong willpower. BUT post-timeskip, things changed. Luffy now has Observation Haki and can anticipate even a vampire's actions, while his Armament Haki can pass through Spike's thorny defense. And while Spike can heal and won't stay down even from an Elephant Gun, Luffy has the Red Hawk that is fiery and thus can finish Spike off.
Can't: Arlong
He is the shark of East Blue, but against Spike, Arlong would not last long. Arlong is very strong and his teeth can cut through rock and metal. They can also regenerate very fast. But, even if they can cut through Spike's vampiric skin, Spike has the trait Arlong displays in his whole damn body, not just his vampiric fangs. That alone is a massive advantage, and Arlong doesn't have enough Haki against vampiric strength and speed.
Can: Portgas D.Ace
We are only told this, but Ace could use all three types of Haki... even though only Observation would make a difference. Possibly. Ace had complete control over fire, the one thing Spike is very vulnerable to. Luffy's brother could even become fire, which is a superior defense to being a ball of spikes, especially against a vampire. Ace would stomp due to his fruit alone. (Similarly, Sabo would destroy Spike easily at full power)
Can't: Foxy
Foxy is the opposite of post-timeskip Luffy here. His fruit is very suitable for a vampire. Slowing down time? Great for super fast enemies. Except... Foxy is just not a great fighter, while Spike has very good training with his abilities.
Can: Kizaru
Kizaru can honestly take on any vampire. He is actually even faster than Spike due to his fruit, has trained very well as an Admiral, can fire beams of concentrated light that hurt Spike, use a literal lightsaber and turn into light to avoid the spikes of his foe's body. Kizaru would win even as his usual lazy self.
Can't: Buggy the Clown
Buggy's fruit allows him to never be cut down. Spike, however, does not slash his enemies. He stabs them in multiple ways. He is also very hard to cut down, and fast enough to dodge a fearsome Buggy Ball. If Buggy had a way to really finish Spike off and was truly skilled, he could win, but not now.
Can: Bartolomeo
He is a childish fanboy of Luffy, but still a terror due to his fruit. He can raise barriers that even Kozuki Oden could not break, and stop punches that destroy mountains. While Spike can win if he hits his foe, Bartolomeo can just cut him to pieces with his indestructible barriers.
Can't: Bellamy the Hyena
Bellamy's fruit is just springs, which make him a hard target... but his power would be inferior to Luffy even if they had the same training. Also, Bellamy's defense is weak, if he rammed Spike while he was filled with his fatal thorns, it would end badly for the once cocky pirate.
Can: King the Wildfire
King is Kaido's strongest follower and a master swordsman, good enough to take on current Zoro. He can fly, has powerful Haki, and above all else, can cast ferocious flames. He can take hits from Marco the Phoenix, and his sword can cut through even fire, so vampiric skin is no big deal for him. His Haki can weaken Spike enough for King to use his Lunarian magic to set him ablaze, or lop off his head.
Can't: Koby
Koby has great Observation Haki and can stop a torpedo without looking. As a result, he would try to put up a fight against Spike. However, his abilities are still pretty limited. His Rokushiki allows him to be faster than the human eye can see and he would trade blows with any ordinary vampire with a chance to win. However, the lack of any other special abilities means he can only beat standard vampires, and not someone who can turn any part of his body into hazardous spikes.
Can: Roronoa Zoro
Zoro is not a foe to be underestimated. He has come a long way from not even being the best on his class to causing trouble to Mihawk's monkeys and a giant stone golem. In Alabasta and Dressrossa, Zoro shows why he would beat Spike. In Alabasta, he faced an opponent who could become very sharp steel and won. In Dressrossa, he faced Pika, and showed very, very powerful Armament Haki that bypasses many defenses. If he can cut Spike to the point he can't reattach himself, Zoro is victorious. And now, with Enma, that's very likely.
Can't: Kurozumi Orochi
The irredeemable snake with the tragic backstory, what's even more tragic is that he wastes a badass fruit. He can transform into an Orochi, and his many heads would cause some trouble to odrinary fighters, but he isn't skilled enough to use half the potential of the fruit. Also, he has no Haki, and his good aim with a pistol won't help against a vampire like Spike. If Orochi tries to eat him, he will get a very nasty surprise, courtesy of Spike's sharp thorns.
