Doom review
I played the original Doom yesterday, Knee Deep in the Dead.
It was a pleasant experience. The very first level is basically a tutorial, except it refuses to take your hand. It just allows you to figure out how to fight by yourself.
You start with a pathetic pistol and your fists. But if you love exploring and looking for the many, many secrets, and solve some puzzles, you will never regret it. You will get a chainsaw, a shotgun, a chaingun, even a fucking rocket launcher... But caution with the last one, using it too close will hurt you more than most enemies.
Phobos is indeed fearsome at some points. The enemies are almost always basic, but you might have to fight ten of them at once, and there is no such thing as Glory Kill. But there are the Spectres, who are durable and WILL get close to you, maybe even ambush you. Pro tip: use the chainsaw. Thank me later. Tip 2: Kill fodder with the shotgun, it is effective and there is an enemy that always drops ammo for it.
There is a single point I felt a little fear. It was dark and hard to see, and full of shotgunners and Spectres! It's the point where the chainsaw will save your life. You need to be fast and smart to survive the brawls.
The final stage, Phobos Anomaly, was a good guide how to make a boss stage.
There was one little problem. When I press crtl+alt+arrow key, the screen rotates due to my desktop. Guess how you shoot while strafing. This made the boss fight harder than it should be, but I still came out on top. I enjoyed the game, and I hope you do too!
